2013 EVENTS

Sunday 19 May 2013
WADARS WAG-A-THON

Starting from the car park at Highdown at 11 am, we hope you will be able to join other of our two- and four-legged friends as they enjoy a leisurely walk, and great Downland views en route to Angmering village, where the Spotted Cow will offer refreshment before the return trip.

We are grateful to Abigail Corcoran of Grove Lodge Veterinary Group for once again organising this event on our behalf, and we hope everyone – human and canine – will enjoy this relaxing event. As in previous years, you can pay £5 on the day or sponsor forms will be available from any branch of Grove Lodge Vets from Monday 25 February 2013. Check out their website for your nearest branch www.grovelodgevets.co.uk.

Every dog will receive a goodie bag at the end and there will be ample free biscuits and water for your canine companion.

Directions: For those new to the area, Highdown is to the north of the A259 Littlehampton Road, and just to the west of Titnore Lane. Travelling from Worthing, there is no access across the central reservation, so you have to drive past and on to the next roundabout before coming back to the approach road, which is signposted.

Sunday 19th May 2013
Re-homing Day at Northdale Vets

Most of our supprters will know that it is WADARS’ usual practice to handle enquiries regarding the adoption of animals over the telephone, and then, after discussing the caller’s needs and circumstances, to direct would-be adopters to the fosterer or kennels where appropriate animals are kept.

However, our good friends at Northdale Vets are offering us the opportunity to try a different approach, and will be hosting a Re-Homing Show for us on Sunday 19th May. This will be taking place at their surgery at 48 Victoria Road, Worthing, from 1.00pm to 4.00pm.

We will have on show there a number of cats and other animals available for adoption, and our Animal Rescue Officer, Lee Gander, will also be on hand to talk to anyone interested in adopting, and will be able to arrange the next stage in the process. Charlotte Wells, our Volunteer Co-Ordinator & Fund-raising Assistant will also be present to explain more about WADARS’ work.

You may know that Northdale Vets have arranged similar events for other organisations in the past, and these have been very successful. We are very much looking forward to ours, and are grateful to Jan Pannell and all the crew at Northdale for supporting WADARS in this way.

Saturday 25 May 2013
WADARS STREET COLLECTION

Our annual Street Collection moves from its recent October slot to a new one nearer to the middle of the year. As before, we will be based in Montague Place, with our stalwart team of volunteers, with collecting pots and four-legged assistants, spread around the shopping centre. Come along, say hello, and if you have any loose change in your pocket or purse, it will be gratefully received!

Sunday 25 August 2013
WADARS Dog Show & Family Fun Day

WADARS major fund-raising event for 2013 will be a Dog Show and Family Fun Day, to be held at Clapham & Patching Recreation Ground on Sunday 25th August, in the middle of the Bank Holiday weekend.

The Dog Show will be open to all types of dogs, and will include some ‘fun’ classes as well as the more serious categories, and we are anticipating strong support from local owners. In addition to this, Daneline’s members will be travelling from all over the country to attend, and will be taking part in their own, more specialised contests.

We are also planning games, sideshows and other attractions to appeal to all of the family, and all in all it should be a great day - please put the date in your diary now!

One feature that we are planning to include is a parade of dogs that have been adopted via WADARS. Adopters who are willing to do so, will be able to talk to our commentator and our audience of visitors about their experiences, and what adopting a WADARS dog has meant to them. We are sure that this will encourage other people to think about adopting from us.

If you are interested in taking part with your dog in this, or any of the other activities, then please e-mail our offices on enquiries@wadars.co.uk or ring us on 0300-30-30-999, option 3.

This will be an ideal opportunity to promote animal-related businesses, as well as those focused on family interest, so if you have would like to have a stall at the event, please contact the office, as above.

We already have a small nucleus of volunteers lined up to help run the event, but will need some more if it is to be the great success that we want it to be. If you can help, then please let us know by giving us a call, or e-mailing Charlotte on volunteers@wadars.co.uk

Thank you.
