Adopting a WADARS Pet

WADARS has strict operating procedures to ensure the suitability and safety of both the family and the pet that is to be rehomed.

We receive animals for rehoming from many sources including the general public, other charities and the local authority.

We ensure that all our pets are properly assessed and vet checked; WADARS cats and dogs are neutered, vaccinated, treated for fleas, ticks and worms and microchipped. All pets come to you with 4 week's free PetPlan Insurance cover.

Our animals are boarded in different kennels or foster homes and can only be viewed by appointment.

Please telephone the Animal Welfare Team on 01903 247111 between 10am and 4pm, Monday to Saturday, to discuss your wishes.
A member of the Team will advise you if we have a suitable pet available and when and where it may be viewed.

PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL WADARS WITH QUERIES ABOUT ADOPTING AN ANIMAL

Once you have chosen your pet (or more likely it has chosen you) he or she will be reserved for you while you make an appointment for a member of the Animal Welfare Team to visit you at home.

We are normally able to visit you within 2-3 days. The purpose of the visit is to discuss all aspects of ownership with you and to ensure that you have made the right decision in adopting your pet. It is also the time when we can discuss with you any special needs of the pet you have chosen and what you will need before the animal can be released to you.

Once we agree that the pet is right for you and your family, the adoption papers have been completed and we have received your adoption fee, you will be able to take your new pet home.

We will normally visit you again after 2-3 weeks to make sure that all is well and that both the pet and family are happy together.

PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU ALREADY HAVE OTHER CATS OR DOGS IN YOUR HOME THEY MUST BE FULLY VACCINATED BEFORE A WADARS ANIMAL WILL BE ALLOWED TO LIVE WITH YOU. EVIDENCE OF VACCINATION MUST BE AVAILABLE TO THE TEAM ON THEIR FIRST VISIT.

Adoption Fees

Adoption fees vary depending upon the animal.

The minimum adoption fee for a WADARS dog is 120 (although some may be more) for a cat is 60 and for a rabbit is 25. Other pets, such as guinea pigs and hamsters, range from 5 to 25.

These are examples of the average costs incurred for a dog that is taken into our care.

> Veterinary check/Vaccination = 50
> Neutering/Spaying = 150
> Flea/Worming treatment = 10
> Micro-Chipping = 10
> Kennelling costs per week = 60 (on average a dog stays in our care for three weeks)
